Main board: Das Haslibacherlied - Haslibacher Song

«Wherefore shall we begin to sing of an old man who was from Haslibach.»

This is how the most famous Swiss Anabaptist song begins.

It describes in 32 stanzas the story of the farmer and Anabaptist Hans Haslibacher, the interrogation, the steadfastness, the condemnation and the beheading in 1571. In the 18th century, the Haslibacher Song was banned because of its critical attitude to the authorities. In the 20th century, however, it found its way into the well-known song collection "Röseligarte" by Otto von Greyerz and thus once again became more widespread.
